V.O.B (Very Old Bra)
22 Jul
On first glance, this bra resembles that ‘oh-so expensive’ lingerie you pop in the wash, stick on high, before the penny dropping. Destroyed.
Ah-ha! We are mistaken – this bra has a story that makes us question the fundamentals of our ‘feministic’ knowledge! It is, in fact, 600 years old, crushing the notion that the modern bra was invented a mere century ago. Discovered in an Austrian castle from the middle ages, it suggests that such garments were worn before the corset. Not only this, the decorative lace embroidery indeed indicates the intent for the bra to please both wearer and ‘suitor’.
That, or it’s an early ‘peep-hole’ prototype! We’ll leave that to the historians to decide…
